Philippians 4:8 AMP

“Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things.”

Focusing on the positive: In this verse Paul gives specific instructions on how to shift our attention from the negative to the positive. It takes practice to think on the positive, especially when we see so much negative in the world. Fixing our minds on positive things takes purpose and determination. To not try and change the negative is allowing the negative to proceed and even grow. By consciously choosing to think in the positive frame of mind is to reshape the world around us, even possibly giving us a new perspective, with a positive outlook. Paul says to think on what is true, not just what we think is true. To think on things that are worthy of respect and confirmed by God’s words. To think on things that will bring us peace and contentment and things that are worthy of admiration. To look on these things and think about what God has done and will do for us, we can find the peace of God that passes all understanding any time we want.

Prayer:

Lord, we cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against You and Your words, and we bring into captivity every thought we have to Your will and supremacy, your wisdom and knowledge (in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 10:5). Lead our thoughts to Your will, Your ways. Guide us into all truth and purity of hearts and minds. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
