Vindication

Psalms 26:1-3 ESV

“Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.  Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.”

This is an honest cry from an honest heart. David was in the middle of accusations, and speculations. So, he cries out to God for his defense, his vindication, to declare him innocent. David tells God what he has seen of himself, but that is not good enough for King David, he wants God to search his heart, to search his mind to see if there is anything in there to bring charges against him. David knows God is integrity and truth, he knows God will judge him accordingly and will either correct him or acquit him. David set the groundwork before God by stating his case, then he asks for the record to be searched, and then his closing statement, he falls on the mercy of God by saying, “For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.”

We have all been at this place many times. People have spoken false accusations against us, thinking of themselves to be our judge and jury, but God is our vindication and help in times of need. Take your case before the Lord first, before giving your defense to someone who is already angry with you. Then ask God to judge or justify you according to His insight. He is the only one who can acquit us.

Prayer:

Oh Lord, “Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.  Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.”
