Climb Higher

Psalms 18:32-33 ESV

“The God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.”

I was in Israel when I was young. It was an amazing place, and I had a life-changing experience with the trip. Me and my friend decided we were going to walk down this fairly steep mountain to the Sea of Galilee. As we walked, we dodged boulders, rocks and obstacles, it was time consuming and dangerous. A friend that went with us on the trip decided that he wanted to go with us and he came up over the top of the hill running and yelling out for us to wait for him. He was going too fast and we tried to warn him, but it was too late. He tripped over some rocks and lost his balance and came tumbling down the side of the mountain, hitting a lot of rocks as he came. Needless-to-say, he was badly injured. We took him back to our hotel room and bandaged him up and washed his wounds. He didn’t break anything, but he was badly bruised. He made it through the rest of the trip ok, but sore. He obviously lacked the skill to run on a rocky mountain.

David is speaking metaphorically in this Psalm about how God gave him the ability to do everything that he accomplished; like a mountain goat can navigate the rocks on a high mountain. David gave all the credit to God for his abilities.

Prayer:

Lord, equip me with strength, and make my walk with You blameless, with integrity, courage and complete devotion to You. Make my walk with You seemingly look easy to those who are watching, because my trust is completely in You. In Your name, Lord Jesus, amen.
