Getting Rid of Burdens
Psalms 37:5 ESV
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”
The Hebrew verb for commit is galal which means to roll as if rolling a heavy weight on to the Lord.
Literally this says from the Hebrew, “Roll your way on Jehovah and trust in Him”. In our case we will call this a heavy burden that we have been carrying around. So, in David’s instructions to us, as a man after God’s own heart, roll all the burdens that we are carrying around on to the Lord. Trust Him (rely, depend) in Him. Interesting David said to trust in the Lord instead of trust on the Lord. This signifies a relational, heart-level of reliance, while “trusting on” might suggest a more casual or distant dependence. So, if we roll all our burdens on to the Lord and we trust in Him in a close dependent relationship, He will take care of all that matters to us.
Prayer:
Lord, this morning we roll all our burdens and cares to You. We know when we do this, that we release these burdens and cares completely and we trust that You will move in Your will and Your way. Thank You for loving us so much and being faithful to give us the strength and patience to wait on You. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
