Philippians 2:1-2 NIV

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.”

What was Paul asking for, for us all to think alike? Not necessarily. Paul was asking if we have all received the same Gospel of Jesus Christ, if we have received and share the same Spirit of God, and if we all share the same love that dwells in Jesus, then we should have the same goals to serve Jesus and to be united. We should be heading in the same direction. We should have similar opinions and values, or a shared purpose. It describes a group of people who are in agreement or have a similar way of thinking, which often leads to a sense of connection and understanding. God loves our individuality. He made us to think differently, feel differently and handle life differently. Some are strong, some are weak, some are weak when they think they are strong, but we all need individuality, but we also need community. We need to get along and work to the common goal of living a life that is pleasing to the Lord and to lead others to Jesus. If people who are of the world sees chaos in the church or among Christians, then why would they want to become Christians. The world needs to see us unified, and like minded for ourselves and for the harvest.

Prayer:

Lord, only You can move us in the right direction unified, as one. There is strength in unity and there is power in becoming one in Christ. Your word says, “And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12). If You are with us and we are unified, can anything stop the church as a whole from prevailing in a wild world? In Your name Lord Jesus bring us together, unify us to be who we are supposed to be in You. Amen!
