The Love of Jesus
John 21:15 ESV
“When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Peter had failed the Lord in a crucial moment. Although Jesus knew beforehand of Peter’s betrayal, and Jesus predicted the betrayal, it didn’t help Peter’s sorrow of heart. As a matter of fact, it probably made it worse for Peter.
Our Lord saw something in Peter that Peter never had seen in himself. Our Lord saw boldness, strength of character, passion, and fire, and our Lord knew He could use all those things in Peter. So, to reconcile Peter, our Lord went to great lengths in John 21 to reconcile him back to where he belonged.
For us, our Lord sees things in us that we cannot see in ourselves. We see timidity; He sees boldness. We see lackluster, but He sees passion and power. Allow our Lord to take us where He can use us the most. The Master is in need of our qualities.
Prayer:
Thank You for seeing in us that which we cannot see in ourselves. Thank you for overlooking our faults and seeing the attributes that You need in the kingdom. Wherever we are mentally, physically, spiritually or emotionally, You always come and find us and lead us back. Thank You, Lord, for mercy, grace, and so much love that I cannot fathom it, Amen!
