Let Our Words Be Few

Ecclesiastes 5:2 ESV

“Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.”

This word was written by Solomon as a word to be mindful of the words that we speak. The broader message is that King Solomon wanted His readers to seek wisdom, understand the cycles of life, and live in awe of God. In the context of this verse, Solomon reminds us of the reverence and respect due to God, suggesting that hasty or ill-spoken words can be disrespectful. It encourages careful thought and prayerful consideration before speaking, especially as representatives of Jesus Christ.

We need to think before we speak.

Prayer:

Lord, help us to consider our words, consider who we are in Christ and be responsible for what we say. Let our words be seasoned with grace and mercy. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
