Blessed
Psalms 94:12-13 ESV
“Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law,to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked.”
It may seem odd to say that the person who God disciplines is blessed, but it is true. When we were young, we were disciplined very strictly. Those in the Lee household had to act above reproach or our mother would discipline us. Out of all six of us boys, most of us agreed that the discipline did not kill us or maim us for life. In fact most of us boys confess that the strong discipline and the correction to stay in the ways of the Lord, and in mom’s ways, saved us in more ways than one.
This passage says that the person that God disciplines is blessed because David knew that God’s love for us warranted that discipline to keep us in God’s paths. In fact, God’s discipline according to David teaches us, gives us rest from troubles. It may be a tough pill to swallow, but God’s discipline expresses His love for us.
Prayer:
Lord, You never discipline more than we deserve. Your discipline is to show Your love. Your discipline is leading, guiding and directing us to be in more of Your favor. Your discipline Lord shows us that Your care deeply for us and want us to have the best in this life and the life to come. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
