The Calm Before the Storm
John 16:32-33 ESV
“Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Not much is said about Wednesday of Holy Week in the Bible. The speculation is that after three days of contention with the Scribes, Pharisees and religious leaders, Jesus felt a break was in order.
The disciples had no way to comprehend what was about to happen. In fact, the next few days would shock them into deserting Jesus and hide out in fear.
I’m sure that Jesus spent this day with the disciples in Bethany just resting and possibly reminiscing the three and a half years of His teaching. Jesus knew what was best for them at this point and obviously the disciples decided to keep this day private, they left no written record of this day. I don’t know how you would prepare your closest companions for the storm that is about to take place in God’s holy city.
Today’s passage comes to my mind.
As we face our own storms in this life, remember His words, let them bring us comfort and peace. No matter what we go through, we can retain His peace in our heads and in our hearts if we allow it to take over the storms.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, bring us calm, bring us peace. You already know what we are going to go through today. I ask for Your hand of protection on us, protection on our families, protection on our homes and finances. If things do not go our way today or the way we want them to go, please bring us back to peace in You! In your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
