Palm Sunday

Matthew 21:1-3, 6-9
“Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

Jesus is not looking for praise from the throng of people that will gather to praise Him and shout “Hosanna to the King,” because He knows that they are only praising Him because they believe that He has come to crush the Roman rule. Jesus knows that the throng of people shouting, “hosanna,” will soon be crying out, “crucify Him.”

Jesus came to be King, but not the kind of King or Kingdom that the people were looking for then. He was and is the kind of King that appeals to us all. He is just what we need for every situation. He knows how to humble but also knows how to be a conquering King. This day, He came in humility and peace.

For now, He reigns in our hearts and lives. He has taught, trained, admonished and rebuked righteously. He poured out His life for all mankind, and He gave His life to save all who believe in Him. Those who will not believe are condemned by their own thinking.

Prayer:
Lord. We cry out Hosanna today because we know exactly who You are. We know that Your Kingdom for now lives in our heart and lives. We know one day we will reign with You forever. For now, we celebrate You our true Messiah and King. We cry out to You as our conquering Savior, our Mighty God, Our Prince of Peace. In Your name Savior and Lord, Amen!
