Proverbs 24:16 ESV
“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”
King David did something that the King would often do, he went up on the roof of the palace to survey the city. Only this night, on a house not far from the palace, a lady was taking a bath on her roof at the same time. Instead of David doing the right thing and turning away and go back into the palace, he fixed his gaze on this beautiful women and allowed lust to conceive in his heart.
It would have been one thing to end it with that but David took sin to a higher evel. He sent a servant to get the young lady and bring her to the palace. This young lady was married but still David slept with the young lady and she became pregnant.
Hopefully everyone knows what happened next in the story; David’s sins compounded many times over until lies and deception turned into death. David’s story did not stop with him falling so many times. After all had passed, David repented to God, got up, and started moving forward again.
David is considered the greatest King of Israel and a man after God’s heart. When we slip and fall, we cannot stay down, the righteous rise again. To fall and not get up just means we accept defeat.
Prayer:
Father, I have stumbled and fell more times than I care to admit, but because of You, each time I have fallen, I have gotten back up again. Thank you!
