Create In Me a Clean Heart

Psalms 51:10 AMP

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

When David wrote this Psalm, he had admitted that his sin was great against God and the people of his kingdom. He had committed adultery, lied, manipulated, and caused the death of a great man, and ultimately the death of his own son. He wasn’t asking God to clean up his heart, he asked God to create in him a brand-new heart; he didn’t want his sins to taint him anymore. This word create is the same word in Genesis chapter one when God created the world and all that is in it from nothing. David wanted to start over fresh. With the clean heart David asked for his spirit to be renewed. He wanted God to give him the spirit of God in his life afresh and new.

Prayer:

Lord, create in us a clean heart and renew, refresh, and revive that steadfast, right Spirit within us today, Lord.  In Your name, Lord Jesus, we ask in sincerity, Amen!
