Luke 6:27-28 ESV

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

It is interesting that Jesus preceded this command with, “I say to you who hear…” Not all heard that day, not all hear today. Most feel better keeping their enemies at bay and even in chains so to speak. Jesus tells us something that we don’t want to hear, it is unnatural, and uncomfortable, but He had purpose in His command. Love breaks barriers, love makes the recipient make a choice, continue to hate or return the love. To love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us, it’s just too painful it may seem, but those that we call our enemies need God too. Perhaps those that hate us will see God in us if we follow this command. Again, I will remind us of what Jesus preceded this command with, “I say to you who hear…” If we will hear and obey the Master, He will take care of us and make our enemies see Jesus in us. That is better than the coals of fire, this way our enemies have to make the choice themselves; keep hating, or follow Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord, I hope that we all hear You and hear Your heart in this matter. We can take the matter into our own hands or do as You commanded us and then let You take care of the rest. In Your name Lord we commit our hearts, minds, testimonies and lives to You, Amen!
