If the Lord Builds the House

Psalms 127:1 ESV

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Our efforts are futile without God’s blessing and involvement. Spiritual dependency on God is the only way to lasting purpose and success. All that we try to do with our own power and by our own strength is subject to destruction but everything that the Lord builds is forever. When we surrender our will to the Lord and trust His will and His ways, and seek His guidance first, He receives all the glory and then He sends the glory of God back on us and our endeavors. True fulfillment comes from recognizing God’s supremacy and power and resting in His provision and purpose for our lives. 

The same principle applies to our personal sense of security. We can plan, fortify, protect with whatever means that we think is impenetrable by evil, but until we trust God with our peace and protection, can we really trust that we are fortified?

Prayer:

Lord, build in us the people that You want us to be. You already know what we need in this life and You know the source where these things will come. Have Your will and have Your way in us Lord. In Your name Lord we ask, Amen!
