What the Father Does

John 5:19

“So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” 

In this verse Jesus is professing His equality with God the Father. The perfect unity between Jesus and God shows up in everything that Jesus says and does.

Have you ever seen a boy that wants to be just like his dad? He wants to dress like his dad, walk like his dad, talk like his dad. In this case of this scripture, if you see Jesus, you see the Father. When we read His words, it sounds like the Father. When we sense Him show up at our church meetings or in our private devotions, it’s just like being in the presence of God. When Jesus heals, it’s the hand of God. When Jesus speaks life to the dead, the dead hears the voice of God. You could say in effect that they are the mirrored image of each other. The Son will never contradict the Father and the Father will never contradict the Son. In Essence they are the same person.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to be the reflection of Your glory. Help me to speak Your truths. Help me to lead how You lead. Help me to carry myself as one of Your faithful disciples. Lord, make me like You. In Your name, precious Savior, I pray. Amen!
