Righteous

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV

“For our sake he made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus, who lived a perfectly sinless life, was treated as if He were guilty of every sin ever committed so that we could be redeemed back to God and that we would not suffer the penalty for our sins. Through His sacrifice, Jesus bore our penalty and shame. Instead, we were made the righteousness of God through His Son. The penalty for sin no longer looms over our head, we are God’s righteous people. This verse removes the burden of earning your our salvation. It means that our relationship with God is not based on our performance, failures, or personal righteousness, but entirely on the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Prayer:

Thank You Jesus, for taking my sins on Yourself and allowing that sin to be nailed to the cross of Calvary. You paid my penalty so that I would not have to suffer and die. Now, through Your actions, I am set free, I am the righteousness of God because of You and Your sacrifice for me. I praise Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen!
