Pure in Heart
Matthew 5:8 ESV
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Purity, in its most clear and original meaning, refers to the idea of something being singular, unified, unmixed, or consistent. In our case as Christians the pure in heart are focused from the inside out on one single entity, God. Purity in heart is right motivations, right thoughts, we may not be completely sinless, but we are in pursuit of pleasing God.
We often want this attitude from other people toward us or our family members. We want people to have pure thoughts, pure motivations, pure actions, but often that does not happen because those without God in their lives typically do not have pure motivations.
The promise of a pure heart is the ability to see God. Not a physical manifestation of God, yet, we will see Him eventually, but being able to see Him in life, in creation. Being able to see Him in His words as we read them. Being able to see exactly what God wants us to see.
Prayer:
Lord, purify our hearts and minds. Let our thoughts and motivations be guided by You. Bring us to the point in our life that we can see Your hand in motion in our lives and the lives of our family and friends. Less of us Lord and more of You is what we desire. In Your name Lord, Amen!
