First Things First
Matthew 6:33 ESV
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
In the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey has as one of his list of habits, “Put First Things First.” This habit shows the urgency of prioritizing tasks that are based on importance. We all have tasks to do each day, and I know how important each task is. Stephen asks, (1) What is important but not urgent? (2) What is not as important but urgent? (3) What is not important and not urgent? But lastly what is most Important and urgent? Do that task first.
Jesus’s words here will help with that prioritizing because this is important and urgent to do first every morning; “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Everything else falls in line after this. Doing this will set a precedence for the day. Seeking the Kingdom of God where God dwells and pursuing God’s righteousness is striving to live in accordance with God’s will and character. It involves aligning our thoughts, actions, and motivations with God’s standards, not just in outward actions, but just as much in our inner intentions.
Prayer:
Lord, You are our priority. Our most important task today is seeking You. seeking Your will, Your character, Your love and mercy is our urgency. This morning, we seek You and Your kingdom, because we desperately need You in our hearts, minds, souls, spirits and bodies. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
