Reflection Day

Matthew 27:57-61 ESV

“When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud and laid Him in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Everyone that took part in the burial of Jesus hurried to get all the spices and the ointments ready for the body of Jesus because of the Sabbath. On Saturday there were three different camps doing three completely opposite acts.

For the Jews who condemned Jesus to death, they were asking Pilot to secure the tomb so that the body of Jesus would not be stolen by the disciples.

For the Disciples of Jesus, it was a time of horror and reflection. Although Jesus had told them all that would happen to Him, when it did happen, they were shocked, overwhelmed dismayed, they doubted. The disciples hid themselves out of fear that they would be next.

The ladies that believed in Jesus were in sorrow. They were unsure what to do. Mary and Martha had seen Jesus raise their brother from the grave and Jesus said that He would rise again. The other ladies were in deep distress and sorrow, themselves unsure of what was next.

I don’t know where we would be if we were there, but knowing what we know now, A resurrection is on the horizon.

Prayer:

Lord, I know that You were seeing all that went on this second day while Your body lay in the tomb. I know You saw three different groups handling your death three different ways. For the Jewish leaders and the disciples they were acting out of fear, the greatest tool of the enemy. For the ladies, they were hoping, praying. I wish I could say that I would have been in their camp that day. One thing I know, a resurrection was in the works. Thank You Lord Jesus, Amen!
