Stirring

Hebrews 10:24 ESV

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.”

The Christian walk was meant to be carried out within a body, or community of believers. I’m not saying it is impossible to live a Christian life alone, but typically God places us in a body of believers to be encouraged, to be loved and accepted, to strengthen one another and to have people praying for one another. That is why the writer of the Hebrew letter added in this instruction verse twenty-five that says, “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. I know our walk is personal with the Lord, but the Lord would have us in a place that we can testify, encourage, and lift up people in the faith. The writer of this letter is asking us to motivate one another, and the best way to motivate people is to live our lives on purpose and with purpose as we follow Jesus. This could be coupled with Jesus’s command in Matthew 5:16, “…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Prayer:

Lord, help us to thoughtfully encourage one another, to lift up our brothers and sisters in the Lord. To help one another in their walk, and our walk as we follow You. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
