By My Side

Psalms 16:7-8 ESV

“I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”

David isn’t necessarily talking about dreams in this passage, he more or less is talking about when he settles down and begins to ask God about decisions that he needs to make, God gave him wise counsel. It is true that David sometimes did not follow that wisdom, but none-the-less God sent the wisdom. When David did obey, he set the Lord before me, or he followed the counsel. In those times, David was confident. So what I hear David saying to us, when we listen to God’s counsel, and then we follow God’s counsel, we will not find our selves in the pit but on the solid rock Jesus Christ. Sounds like a good formula to go by!

Prayer:

Lord, help me to always ask for counsel, then seek Your counsel, and knock on the door of heaven because You said the door will be opened (Matthew7:7). Then help me to heed Your counsel and then help me to put Your counsel to work in my life first, and then help me to teach others to do the same. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
