Lifter of My Head
Psalms 3:3-4 ESV
“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.I cried aloud to the Lord, and He answered me from His holy hill.”
David knew what it was like to be in the favor of God. He knew what it was like when he broke God’s heart by his words and actions. He certainly knew what it was like to be restored and in right standing with God again, where he made God smile. The source of this Psalm many believe came from when David was fleeing from Absalom, his son. David was in deep distress escaping from his kingdom from his son Absalom and his men that were trying to take over the throne. David, though deep in sorrow, expressed to God that He was the shield around him and that God was the one who would lift his head from depression and anguish and the one that would lift him back to his place of prominence.
Prayer:
O Lord, wherever we are this morning, and whatever state of mind that we are in, deliver us. Be that shield about us to protect us and sustain us. Be the glory and the lifter of our heads, to bring us out of the pit, if we find ourselves there, and set our feet on the solid rock, You Lord Jesus. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
