Feeding the Spirit

John 6:35 ESV

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

At times we worry about matters at hand, those worries seem to dominate our lives and we are focused on taking care of that need that is present before us. The people in this scene in John 6 were no different. They were concerned about provisions and healing; Jesus was concerned about their spiritual condition. They sought for the miracle worker that divided the bread and fish to feed thousands. The loaves and the fish were portions for one person, Jesus made it provisions for thousands. They thought of themselves, that if they followed Jesus, He would provide endlessly for them. Jesus spoke the words of this verse about their spiritual condition. The bread that Jesus will give is Himself, the hunger that He addresses is hungering for the things of God and thirst for meaning of life with God.

Sometimes we don’t know we are hungering for more of God, that’s what that longing is in our lives is all about, hungering for meaning, hungering for contentment, hungering for life to make sense. That hungering can only be solved in Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord, we hunger this morning for more of You in our lives. We need You to fill the void, heal the hurts, calm the storms and bring us to a place of fulfillment and contentment in You. It is there we will find the peace that we need. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
