Search Me

Psalms 139:23-24 ESV

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

David was going to the Father for a checkup. What were David’s symptoms? Something in his spirit wanted to make sure that he was in a right relationship with God. Something that we should often do.

Someone once said, “If God wants to tell me something then He should just tell me, I shouldn’t have to search for the answers.” Well, that’s not how this relationship works. This relationship with the Father is a Father to daughter or Father to son relationship. It’s about mutual trust, mutual commitment, and mutual communication. I guarantee that God is better at this relationship than we are; He is fully committed to us, always communicating to us in the Spirit and through His words, the Bible, and He already knows how much He can trust us to be who we are supposed to be. From time to time, go to the Father for a checkup, but when He gives His diagnosis, we would do well to heed his assessment.

Prayer:

Lord, I repeat the words of David this morning, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” In Your name Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
