Children of the Light

Ephesians 5:8-10 ESV

“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true) and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.”

Paul encourages the believers at Ephesus to walk out their lives as children of the Light in a dark world. This does mean that we  snub those who reside in the darkness, this is showing the light of Jesus through our words, actions, deeds, and thoughts. This is living our lives on purpose ready, willing and able to lead others to the light of Jesus. I love Paul’s thought at the end of these verses, he says, “…try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.” In this short statement it gives us direction to be sure we are conducting ourselves the way the Lord wants to be represented. We often talk about discerning the things that are of the darkness, this statement is asking us to discern what pleases the Lord. We consciously assess the way we talk to people, the things we listen to, and the things that we do.

Prayer:

Lord, as recipients of Your light, we represent You. We may have different personalities and mannerisms, but we are still children of Yours. Help us to be consciously aware of how we represent you to our brothers and sisters in the Lord and to those who are in the world. We are You Lord to the world and we want to represent Your heart. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
