Accepting Counsel

Proverbs 19:20 AMP

“Listen to counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, that you may be wise in the time to come.”

I have a few acquaintances in my past that refused counsel except what came from their own thinking. That can be dangerous for some. Yes, we can hear from God like anyone else does, but often God sends someone by our way to help us with our assessments. It is best to hear their counsel, seek God about their counsel and then make decisions. If it is godly counsel, then rejecting their counsel could be foolish. I pray that I will never get to the point in my life where I will refuse wise counsel.

Solomon says to listen to counsel, that is being open and receptive. Receive instructions, that means to remain teachable. Accept corrections, not being closed minded. Have these qualities; a receptive listener, being teachable, and open-mindedness leads to wisdom for the future. Self sufficiency is a form of pride.

Prayer:

Lord, we lean on You. If You send us wise counsel, help us to be open and receptive. Teach us to be good listeners, help us to be teachable and open-minded to the truth found in You. In Your name Lord Jesus, we ask, amen.
