Silently Suffering
Isaiah 53:7 ESV
“He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so He opened not his mouth.”
Jesus is the Lord of glory. He has all the power in heaven and on earth. At His disposal are legions of angels. Yet when He was reviled, beaten, mocked and slandered, He held His peace. It wasn’t because He was powerless, no He had all the power to stop things at His choosing. He chose to suffer for the sins of all mankind and He chose to do so in silence, why? Because He was showing us that He was wiling to carry out the plans of God without grumbling, complaining, or shouting at His accusers. He showed us that He was willing to abase Himself so that we might be free. He was willing to walk this road to bring us back in right relationship with God.
I wonder the next trial that we face, or trouble that we encounter if we should look to Him, trust Him, and stop complaining, but instead walk with Him.
Prayer:
Lord, we cannot thank You enough for what You endured for us. It was not just a day, it was not just a torture, it was so much more. It was for our salvation that You suffered humiliation, shame, torture, and a crucifixion so that we could come back in right relationship with God. We have to wonder, what are You teaching us when we face troubles? In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
