Consider Your Ways

Haggai 1:5-6 NLT

“This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you (or consider your ways, think about what has happened to you)! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!”

If things are not going well, then we need to stop and ask why. Is it our course of actions? Is it our thoughts, hopes, or dreams? Is it our plans and goals? Or is it external forces? Well, all of that can change but it may take time. So, what do we do to make a change?

In this story in Haggai, God told Israel to stop what they were doing and get back to doing what He told them to do years earlier. When they came out of exile, they went home to build a temple for God to serve Him like they should have done all along. They started serving God and doing what He asked for a time and then stopped. Then they started looking at themselves and their needs and forgot about God. They were doing exactly what they were doing when God let them be captured and taken away into exile.

A word for all of us; consider our ways. Get back to doing what God wanted us to do, listen to His voice, stay in His word, seek godly counsel, whatever it takes to get back on track.

Prayer:

Lord, we stop to consider our ways this morning. Are we heading in the right direction? Are we doing the right things that You wanted us to do? Are we pursuing the goals that You have given us? Help us to seek You with our whole heart, mind and Spirit. Help us to stay focused on Your work and Your calling then You will provide as You always do for our needs. In Your name Lord, Amen!
