Salvation”
Matthew 1:21b ESV
“…you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
The angel Gabriel told Joseph that he was to call the son of Mary, Jesus. Jesus means (Jeshua in Hebrew) or Salvation or Yah Saves. For Mary and Joseph to continue to call their son Salvation every day would send a message it seems. But Jesus’s half brothers and sisters did not believe that he was truly the Messiah for some time. I don’t know if they got tired of calling their eldest brother salvation or not, but something turned them against believing at least for a time.
Later, after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the half brother of Jesus, James, would end up believing and even taking on a leadership role in the early church.
Think about every time you and I call on the name Jesus, we are saying, “God saves.” Or perhaps we are calling on Jesus and saying, “Salvation, I need You today in my life or my child’s life.” I could say of our children, “Jesus, (or Salvation) draw our children back to you today.” The work and the words are already in motion for their salvation.
I had a minor miracle the other day in the dentist office, and when the dentist told me that he was wrong on his diagnoses, my first words out loud were “thank you Jesus!” Thank You Salvation for healing me!
Prayer:
Jesus, our Salvation, there are a lot of needs today, but first, we thank You for being our Salvation, our Lord. Thank You for laying aside Your royal robes in glory and coming to this earth as a little baby to save us. Your primary purpose is in Your name and the very first time that Your mother called You Jesus, Salvation, was already running its course for all mankind. Your name Jesus, Salvation, is going global as we pray, and I pray for Your salvation for every person on this earth, Amen!
