Your Light
Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Most people who are Christian do not want to be a spectacle in this life, but we have to let our light shine. That is what we are here for, to be the light of the world
The other day I asked the Lord to allow me to be a witness to someone that day. On my first job a gentleman drove up and got out of His vehicle. I recognized him even though I had not seen him for a long time.
We struck up a conversation and it became a long conversation. I needed to finish my work, but I heard the Holy Spirit deep down in my spirit say I needed to listen to this man. He revealed a lot of things about his life and as I listened, I remembered what I had prayed earlier. I was able to witness to this gentleman and I could see he was visibly shaken. Tears began to form in his eyes.
The gentleman went about his work fixing what he was supposed to be fixing at the apartment. Everytime I walked out of the apartment he had something to say, I knew he needed this moment, just to get things off his mind. I gave him the time despite falling behind in my day. I knew it was divine providence, and I needed to let Jesus shine through me.
Today, let’s not get so caught up in the day that we can’t let the light of Jesus shine through us. No matter who is around us, do not have preconceived notions that the people we see do not want to hear us or that we are unavailable to listen.
Prayer:
Lord, shine through us today. Don’t let us get so busy with the affairs of life that we cannot let others see Jesus in us. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
