Jesus Only

1 Corinthians 2:2-5 ESV

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

Paul was an intelligent man even before He accepted Jesus as his Savior. He had been taught by the best in Jewish laws and customs. He was well acquainted with all matters concerning God and His word, so he thought. But as Paul would go to say in Philippians 3:7, “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”

Paul comes to the church at Corinth, these were different people in their way of life and customs. So, he made a profound decision, “…I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” A wise decision Paul, God is honored with that decision. Then Paul says, “my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” Basically, Paul is saying, I decided to let the Spirit of God have his way, my words are nothing without the power and anointing of God in them.

Every time we speak today, with every word and every action, let us choose to let the Holy Spirit come out in our words and deeds and set ourselves and our own agendas on the sideline. Let God be glorified, let us be abased.

Prayer:

Lord, let my speech and my message not be with what wisdom I think that I have, but let the Holy Spirit demonstrate the power and the anointing of God through me and in me. In Your name Lord I ask, Amen!
