The Anointing

Acts 1:8 ESV
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The disciples had been with Jesus for three and a half years. He was leaving this world, and He left all His teachings and the sacrifice that He had made with His disciples to tell the world. They felt scared, inadequate, and helpless. What they needed at that point was power. Jesus provided that and the rest is history of how the gospel was spread throughout the world.

When we were saved, we exchanged our old lives for a life with Jesus. Old things passed away; all things became new to us (2 Corinthians 5:17). We then received the Spirit of Christ in our lives, and it brought about a change in us, but it also came with the power of the Holy Spirit so we could be witnesses.

As a young man, we would witness on the streets and from door to door. It was intimidating to me because I feared rejection, not everyone wants to hear about how Jesus can change their lives for the better (I find that shocking). I honestly think I felt personally rejected, not my message. I do understand that they were not rejecting me, they were rejecting my message and my Lord and Savior.

As I got older in my 30’s and 40’s, witnessing took on a new form, I was not intimidated or afraid of people rejecting my message anymore. It is my privilege to offer salvation through Jesus Christ, but if people do not want to hear the truth, then that is their choice, that’s between them and God.

Today, or any day, that you have the opportunity to tell someone what Jesus has done for you, that is witnessing. You may feel like your words do not contain power, but I guarantee that they do. The Holy Spirit is in each of us to do great things for God. You may feel like you do not have much to offer, but in the Spirit realm you are as bold as a lion. When you share what Jesus has done for you, there is great power in your testimony.

Prayer:
Lord, today we may have the chance to testify of the goodness of God in our lives, with that goes out power, Your power. For the lives that we touch today do a perfect work within those people and within us. Bring healing, restoration, forgiveness, and salvation. In Jesus name we ask, Amen!
