Stepping Out in Faith
John 2:1-3, 11 ESV
“On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.”
The wedding at Cana was the place of Jesus’s first miracle in the book of John. Turning the water into wine at the wedding feast was the first open display of His power. For Jesus to begin His ministry at this point in time, a few things must have come to His mind.
- For Jesus to begin His ministry, He has to know there will be an end. Although I will never believe that Jesus was fixated on the end, He did speak about what was going to happen to Him several times to prepare His disciples for what lay ahead.
*Typically, to be successful in achieving our goals, we begin the process with the end in mind. What is the objective that we want to see accomplished.
- Jesus has to know some that were present here at this moment, would not be with Him all the way. Judas would be out after Jesus’s arrest. His brothers would eventually turn against Him until His resurrection.
Their lives would be affected forever starting this day.
- His disciples would believe in Him, but they would for the most part eventually give in to doubt and confusion for a time except John.
What we can learn from this account is, we all have to take a stand at points of our lives of what we believe and who we are in Christ. We will be judged and even criticized at times, but we can no way be ashamed of the Gospel or His name. (Romans 1:16)
Stepping out is never easy, but stepping out in faith in Jesus our witness will be heard.
Prayer:
Lord, You have never been bashful or timid about who You are. Help us never be ashamed of the Gospel or Your name. Help us to never be timid in showing who we are in Christ and become You faithful witnesses. In Your name Lord, Amen!
