Lovingkindness

Psalms 36:7 AMP
“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! The children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings”

Simply put, lovingkindness is mercy based on the love of someone to another. We may not get a lot of mercy based on love by people, but we absolutely do receive mercy based on love from God.

People tend to hold grudges, remember faults and failures, fall out of love with us or just selfishly put us aside. Our God is a loving merciful God that acts out of love for us at all times, even when we do not feel lovable.

To be exact, lovingkindness according to Hebrew translations means “covenant loyalty.” This is loyalty in the form of a covenant agreement. These are binding agreements between two or more parties that are made with the promise to fulfill certain obligations.

It may sound strange to read this passage like this but let’s try it. “How precious is Your binding agreements between us, Oh God, that You made a promise to fulfill all Your commitments to us.”

Lovingkindness is who God is. Lovingkindness is used to describe God’s heart toward those who are His children. Lovingkindness is God’s kindness and unwavering love for His children, and is especially evident in meeting our needs.

Today whatever has happened in the past, try to lay it at God’s feet and then find a nice cozy place in the “shadow of His wings.” There we can experience His lovingkindness or take comfort in knowing we have a promise that He will fulfill all His commitments to us.

Prayer:
Father God, You are an awesome God, faithful, true, the one who dispels the darkness from our door and the one who rescues us and places us in the shadow of Your wings. Thank You Father God, Amen!
