His Voice is Calling

1 Kings 19:11-12 NIV
“The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

God knew Elijah was discouraged and depressed and that Elijah needed an encounter with the mighty God. God did grant Elijah’s desire by being in the presences of the Holy God, but not in the way Elijah expected. God first had to show Elijah where He was not. The LORD was not in the wind; He was not in the earthquake; He was not in the fire.

Like Elijah, we look for God in dramatic manifestations, and God will at times do dramatic things, but most of time moves in our hearts and lives in a quiet way. For Elijah, after the manifestations God spoke in a still small voice.

For us, to be able to hear that still small voice we have to be still, be quiet, and be receptive to hear God. We can hear God’s voice, not audibly, but right down deep in our spirit. He is speaking, we just have to be still, be quiet, and receptive enough to hear His voice inside our hearts.

Prayer:
Father, let the voice I hear in my spirit be the loudest voice that I hear today, and let the loudest voice of my own will and emotions be silent. In Your Holy and Righteous name, Amen!
