Our Sins
Isaiah 53:4-5
“Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”
The Message says it like this:
“But the fact is, it was our pains He carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought He brought it on Himself, that God was punishing Him for His own failures. But it was our sins that did that to Him, that ripped and tore and crushed Him—our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through His bruises we get healed.”
We had no idea that our sins were so ugly, so vile, that God would have to get involved in bringing us back to Himself. He did not just get involved; He was the solution. When we see how ugly our sins were that God in flesh, His Son, had to come to earth and be tormented, brutally abused, disfigured and even die for our ugly sins.
As the Message says, we did that to Him, it was our sins that nailed Him to a cruel cross. It was our sins that drove the nails in His hands and feet. So what is the outcome of a Holy God giving His life for us? Salvation, justification, redemption, restoration (bringing back to full glory, the glory that was lost because of sin) a brand new life free from guilt and shame and a right relationship with our holy God.
“By His wounds we are healed.” In context, this is speaking of a spiritual healing that comes to us through our Lord’s sacrifice and through our salvation and redemption we receive all the benefits of a loving God.
Prayer:
Father, we had no idea our sins were so offensive, so vile and ugly, forgive us Father. Thank You for Your sacrifice, thank You for Your Son’s sacrifice and work of redemption. Thank You for loving us so much You would do whatever it took to bring us back to You, Amen!
