Listen and Learn
Exodus 15:25b-26 ESV
“There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there He tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your Healer.”
The Israelites had just been delivered from slavery. They came out of Egypt with gold, silver and fine jewelry, they crossed over the red seabed on dry ground and then saw the demise of their enemies in the Red Sea.
Now God gave them a test that was easy to pass, so you would think. Just obey Me, and none of the things that you saw that happened to the Egyptians will happen to you.
Let me make this clear, God told them, after all that they had seen, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes… I AM your Healer.” (I AM is and will be your Healer)
It doesn’t mean that we will never be sick, and we will never suffer loss, it means that the Great I AM will be our Healer if we will listen, learn, obey, and submit to Him, like He asked these stubborn people to do.
I believe this promise never went away and never faded. If they would have done as He asked, they would have made it to their promised land with honors.
Prayer:
Father God, we can wag our heads at the Israelites for being so hardheaded, but sometimes we are no better. The promise, as I understand it, is still true after thousands of years. Help me to listen and learn from their mistakes. Help me to listen, learn, obey, and submit wholly to You, Amen!
