Commitment to God
Psalms 37:5-6 ESV
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”
The Hebrew root word translated “commit” literally means “to roll.” In Hebrew, this is used figuratively to describe handing over, like handing over to God. The believer “rolls” their burdens onto the Lord. Why? Because God knows exactly how to handle every situation in our lives even before it happens. Committing our ways to God and trusting Him to guide us through every obstacle.
Understand, God does not remove every obstacle, many times He guides us through obstacles to teach us to trust Him more. When this process works, we can say of verse five, “we commit our way to God, we trust Him and then He moves on our behalf.”
After this process of verse five, verse six says that God will bring forth our righteousness. Now we are in right relationship with God or our right standing with God, as the light. In other words, as we commit all to God and trust God, everyone will see that God has His hand on our life and our wellbeing. In the end, in right relationship with God and justified or above the judgment of this world.
The three promises in these two verses; Commit all our ways to God and trust Him and (1) He will act on our behalf. When we commit all our ways to God, He will (2) shine a bright light on our relationship with Himself and (3) we will be justified or above judgment.
Prayer:
Father, we get so busy with life and trying to fix our own problems, we forget that we can roll our burdens and cares on You. Teach us to commit our ways to You, knowing You will bless all we put our hands to when we trust You. You will work on our behalf. Teach us Lord to walk with You, Amen!
