The Light

John 1:4-5a ESV
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness…”

Understand John’s words; “In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life (in Jesus) was the light of men (and women). Basically, our spiritual understanding comes from Jesus.”

No other religion can claim that, only Jesus can give us spiritual understanding to know and perceive and experience true life. Again, no other religion gives spiritual insight into the things of the one true God.

Physical light is necessary for physical life. The earth would certainly change very rapidly if there were no longer any sunlight. Spiritual light is necessary for spiritual life. We cannot experience change and growth without the light of Jesus Christ in our life. The unbeliever does not have this light, so the light of Jesus exposes their darkness.

That is why so much of the world hates Christianity. The light of Jesus Christ exposes their sin and their dark ways. Jesus said in John 8:12, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness (spiritual darkness), but will have the light of life.”

So, if we want spiritual enlightenment, the insight, instructions, the wisdom needed for true life, the true fulfillment of life, we have to follow Jesus. In Him is true life, and His life is the light of all who will accept Him and trust in Him.

Prayer:
Lord, lead us today in Your light. As we follow You in Your light and life, let others see the light in us because of You. We ask in Your name, Amen!
