The Lord’s Compassion

Luke 7:12-15 ESV
“As He drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’ 

Then He came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, arise.’ And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.”

Three things about this miracle from the Lord:

1) His heart is so big; compassion radiates from Him. Jesus walked into this village, He knew what was going on, he saw in His Spirit the destitute situation and He reacted the only way the Savior can. The first thing He did was speak to the mother to calm her heart.

2) He sees without us even asking, but He loves for us to ask anyway. No one asked Jesus for anything that day, I’m sure no one could know it was even possible. Jesus raised the dead.

3) He is so powerful; He brings the dead to life. The best possible solution is exactly what Jesus is going to do. He sees the widow; He knows that she has no husband, and now no son to help her provide the basics of life. That’s the love of our Savior.

For us, He sees our needs, He has so much love and He has the answer that will take care of everything. Sometimes He waits only to bring proper perspective in our hearts and minds before He moves. The lady in the story had to experience death and the probability of being destitute with no income before realizing that life is precious, things happen, where would she have been without her son.

We cannot see the future, so we trust in Him, because we know He can. The best possible solution is what He has in mind for us. Our Lord is never late, never slow, but often He waits to get us to the place where He is everything to us.

Lord, that’s where I want to be, where You are everything to me! In Your name Lord I ask, Amen!
