Taking Time to Praise the Lord
Genesis 12:1,6-7
“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you… Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.”
Abram was originally from a family that served other gods until he heard the call of the One True God. (Joshua 24:2) This calling of God was something new to Abram, but he listened and obeyed God. When God brought Abram to the land of the Canaanites, it was the land that would be the promised land, approximately 450 years later.
In this new relationship with God, Abram believed and followed God unquestionably. I do not know Abram’s manner of worship before this time, but when Abram heard the voice of God in this new land, his first reaction was to stop and praise the Lord God by building an altar to the Lord.
When we know that God is leading, when God is speaking, when God is parting our Red Sea’s so-to-speak, is there any other reaction that we should have but to stop and praise Him in dramatic fashion. I know we are not going to go out and build an altar, but we can make a place to stop and give glory, honor, and praise to the One True God, who is making a way for us.
Prayer:
Lord God, You speak and Your servant is listening. I see You move on my behalf, and I pay homage to Your Holy Name. For You are Great and greatly to be Praised! In Your Name Lord God, I honor You, Amen!
