Our Words
Mark 12:34b-36ESV
“…For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…”
There is an account in Numbers 14, where the ten spies persuaded some 2 million Jews to rebel against God. That set a course that led most of the adult Jews to their death in the wilderness. The fear of the report from the ten spies drove these parents and grandparents to profess that they would die in the wilderness.
In response to their rebellion God spoke these words to them. Number 14:28-29a “…As I live, declares the Lord, what you have said in my hearing I will do to you: your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness…” It’s one thing to think doom, it is another to profess doom openly. The Israelites prophesied their own doom.
Fear is a powerful tool of the devil. By fear, hearts have melted, people have allowed it to control their lives, and in this case, spoken fear became reality. We saw what was in the hearts of the Jewish people in the wilderness. What is in our heart? Do we believe like Joshua and Caleb that God can do anything?
Well, on the faith of Joshua and Caleb, they did enter the promised land, forty years after this account and received God’s blessings. Speak possibilities, speak faith and healing, speak restoration and peace. By our words we will be judged.
Prayer:
Lord, I see that my words can prophesy life or death, I choose to speak possibilities and faith. Let the abundance of my heart profess You are Lord, and there is none like You. In Your precious name Lord Jesus, Amen!
