Sound Wisdom

Proverbs 2:6-7
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity…”

Solomon uses 4 words here that are distinctive in value: wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and sound wisdom. Knowledge is information gained through personal experiences, reasonings, or acquaintances even teachings or reading. You take in the information, and it formulates into memory.

Understanding is the ability to extract the meaning of the information that you receive. You look through the dynamics to know who, what, when, where and why. Understanding knowledge or facts and experiences makes principles. We can see through this explanation why some educated people never come up with clearly defined principles in their lives.

Wisdom is the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting. It is the application of knowledge and understanding. You can be knowledgeable of facts or reasonings without being wise, but you cannot be wise without knowledge and the ability to understand.

Sound Wisdom can be defined as good insight and perception, soundness of mind that reflects the wisdom of God. We could even say it means having good sense and sensibility. Through these definitions, we see why Solomon was desperate to teach his sons about these aspects of life. Even Solomon in all his wisdom later in life slipped in using sound wisdom.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me how to process useful knowledge. Give me understanding so that I may be able to discern. Give me the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding that You have given me. More that Lord, give me good sense, not just common sense, but good sense. I ask in your precious name Lord Jesus, Amen!
