A Good Name
Proverbs 22:1 AMP
“A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches; And favor is better than silver and gold.”
Solomon is not speaking about the name you were given as a baby, but that can be a blessing as well. He is speaking of our character, how people perceive us. When people see us as honorable, respectable, intelligent, gracious, people may call us a good person, a gracious person, or even a godly person.
Although we are not doing the gracious things that we do to get praise from men and women, but our actions reflect who we are in Christ. We all know how it feels to get praise or credit, but that is just a moment, humans have to be impressed on a continual basis.
What is more important than that moment in time, is when God takes notice of our hearts and attitudes and blesses us immensely. He blesses us not just once, but over and over again. Solomon says that, that kind of favor with God will also bring us favor with mankind as well.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to follow you, follow Your heart and bless others as You have blessed me. I seek favor with You Lord. In your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
