Think On These Things
Philippians 4:8 ESV
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Every day we are bombarded with information. Some information we want, some we don’t want, some we don’t need. The enemy is vying for our minds. He knows that if he can give us enough misinformation, it will keep us from the things of God. It will also keep us from the things that will bring us true meaning in life.
So, how do we decipher what is good, what is bad, and what is just useless information. Everything that we hear, read, or think today, run it through the checklist. Is it true? Is it honorable, will it please God in us?
Are the thoughts and information pure, undefiled, legitimate? Are they lovely or brought about by love? Are they commendable, is God proud of you and I for listening, reading, or thinking about these things?
Are the things that are entering our thought process and minds excellent, proof of the goodness of God, worthy of placing in the mind that is supposed to belong to the Spirit of God? Are these things bringing God glory, honor, praise, and admiration?
If not, eliminate those things and get some things in that will bring true life, meaning, honor and glory to us and others, most especially God!
Prayer:
Lord, cleanse our hearts and minds. Clean out the dross, the things in our minds that are just garbage. Give us thoughts of peace, goodness, love. Thoughts that are wholesome, thoughts that will build us up and not deprave our minds and hearts. Give us thoughts and information that will bring us true life and meaning. In Your name Lord, Amen!
