How to Bear Fruit
2 Peter 1:8-9
“For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”
The qualities that Peter is referring to are faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. If we have these qualities and we are actively working at increasing these qualities, we will be effective and fruitful (doing meaningful work and having positive actions that make a difference in our lives and the lives of others).
Peter gives the opposite value of not having these qualities- ineffective and unfruitful. Then he adds; For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Need I say any more than Peter did?
Prayer:
Lord, a life lived for self and selfishness, pays no dividends. Help us to achieve these qualities and characteristics today and everyday so we can live fulfilled, joyful, and meaningful lives. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
