Self-control
Proverbs 25:28 NKJV
“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls.”
The Amplified says it like this:
“Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble].”
Most worldly people don’t feel the need for self-control. They feel that they should be dictated by their thoughts and controlled by their flesh, that’s good enough, according to them.
We may not be able to control how people treat us, how they talk about us, or how they look at us. What we can control is our actions, our words and how we react to negativity and hatefulness.
Do we stoop down to their level, respond in kind to their words and their actions? According to this scripture when we react in kind to hatefulness, we are like a city that has no protection.
The enemy can do whatever he wants with us when we step out of the realm where God has us, and who He wants us to be. Be different from the world’s way of thinking, take control of your spirit.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive us when we get in the flesh and act like the heathen act. We are children of God, help us to act like children of God! In Your name Lord, Amen!
