Hearing From God
Romans 10:17 ESV
“So faith (saving faith) comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (or hearing the gospel- the good news, about Jesus Christ).”
The word Paul used here was hearing. Hearing is a reflection of first-century life. The ancient scrolls were predominantly for the priests or Rabbi’s to read. While there were people who could read, the ordinary first-century citizen depended rather on being able to hear the ancient scrolls to be read to them.
Unfortunately most Rabbi’s and Priests read at their discretion and they read to their discretion what they wanted to expound on. At this point, Paul relies on the good news of the Christ to be read from Christians that had access to the ancient scrolls.
People are waiting to be told the good news. It is the Christian’s duty to broadcast the good news of Jesus however we can. But in hearing the good news, people have two choices, accept it or reject it. The fortunate part of this equation is, once you hear it, you can’t deny it, or actually forget it.
Somewhere along the way people will hear the good news again and again, every time having to make the decision to accept it or reject it. The bases of me sharing this, this morning, is we have an obligation to share the good news to everyone.
It’s not just the duty of the preachers. Everyone who is redeemed has an obligation to share the good news, that’s what we are here to do, carry on the Master’s work. Salvation comes by hearing and hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. Now, go out there and share it!
Prayer:
Here we are Lord, ready, more than able, willing vessels, use us to spread the good news! In Your name Lord, Amen!
