History Repeats Itself

Ecclesiastes 3:14-15 AMP
“know that whatever God does, it endures forever; nothing can be added to it nor can anything be taken from it, for God does it so that men will fear and worship Him [with awe-filled reverence, knowing that He is God].  That which is has already been, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by [so that history repeats itself].”

Ecclesiastes 1:9 NKJV says,
“That which has been is that which will be [again],
And that which has been done is that which will be done again. So there is nothing new under the sun.”

Both verses address events more than the aspect of time. We could say that God allows history to repeat itself in order for us to overcome past mistakes.

Israel was a perfect example of these 2 verses; when they followed God wholeheartedly, blessings and peace were experienced. When Israel turned away from following God, Israel was lost, reckless, and wickedness and lack was the results.

God doesn’t allow history to repeat itself to drive us crazy, He allows history to repeat itself so we can get it right. There us a quote that goes like this; “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.”

The meaning is quite different from the way I’m going to use it: “If we do not learn (from our)history, we are doomed to repeat it.” Our nation’s history, our family history, our personal history. If we do not learn from past mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them.

Prayer:
God help us, as a nation, as a family, as individuals, give us spiritual eyes to see our past faults and failures and stop the senseless repeats, help us to get it right, remember where we stumbled, and move on to Your blessings of life.
