Faith in the Middle of Heartbreak
Genesis 22:1-2,5 ESV
“After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.’ Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.”
Abraham waited for twenty-five years for the promise to be fulfilled to receive his son Isaac. Isaac was born to Abraham at one hundred years old. Sara was ninety-nine. Then during childhood, God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son to God. I can’t even imagine hearing that God wanted me to sacrifice my only son.
Most of us are thinking right now, how could God even ask such a thing. But we have to understand God already knows the steps, God already knows the outcome and God already knows what we can handle and how we are going to process those things in our mind, our decision or response to God.
Abraham did not freak out, he did not go crazy, he did not have a heart attack or even a panic attack. He just went with God’s request. We see Abraham’s mind set when he speaks to his men that went with him, “I and the boy will go over there and worship and COME AGAIN TO YOU.”
He did not doubt that he would come back with Isaac. In fact when Isaac asked his father where the Lamb was, Abraham said, God will provide, and God did provide a ram for the sacrifice.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to trust you like Abraham trusted you. I don’t want to think about it for a day or a week, I want to trust You instantaneously!
